The Power of Decision

Most people don’t realize the power of decision.

As a coach, I hear a lot of people say how they want their bodies to look a certain way, their lives to be different, their finances to be much more robust in some distant, and ambiguous future.

While, yes, it takes time, concentrated effort and discipline to achieve goals, just about every single achievement in our lives can be attributed to one single moment. That moment is the one where we DECIDE to change.

The reality is we tend to sabotage ourselves by thinking that there is some magical formula or some long, drawn out journey that will happen at some point in the future and we – if we are LUCKY – will somehow achieve what we desire.

Today, I want to say NO that is not how it works. You must decide right now to change. Draw a line in the sand and leave your old life behind this very second.

You see, if you want to lose weight, you don’t lose weight by planning some long term project. You lose weight by deciding right now to not engage in the habits that caused you to be overweight in the first place. You engage in an exercise program every day, you stop eating unhealthy food and add supernutrients to your diet for optimum health.

“That is easier said than done.” That is the statement I hear back all too often. To that, I reply, “what you are telling yourself is exactly what is holding you back.” Our lives are as good or as bad as we choose to see them. You simply need to shift your paradigm and you will see that really, everything you want is within your grasp if you put the excuses away.

We are faced with issues we never have had before because this is the first time in human history where we have led such sedentary lives. Our bodies are made to move…to be active. Our minds crave physical activity and it is in our DNA to release endorphins when we are putting forth effort….using our muscles.

Now, so many people spend their days behind an electronic box. We simply must make better choices and the way it all begins is one decision to change. Stop making it so hard. Choose to see your journey as good and simple. Working out isn’t a major life decision. It is a simple one. It is easy to do….easy not to do. You can choose which way your life goes from now one starting right here, right now. 90 Days from now you can look back at this moment and realize that this decision today was all it took.

How to Boost Your Metabolism

Eating Tips to Boost Your Metabolism

Whether you’re trying to lose weight or just wanting to maintain your sleek physique, boosting your metabolism to a higher rate is always a good idea. There are several ways to increase metabolism – including exercising early in the day – but eating can also be a factor in boosting metabolism.

Increasing your metabolism means your body burns calories at a higher rate. So if your metabolism is high, it’s burning calories even when you aren’t working hard at the gym. A sluggish metabolism can cause you to gain weight, because you’re consuming more than your body is burning.

The first thing you need to do is add breakfast to your daily meal planner. Although many people don’t like eating breakfast, it gives your body the rev up it needs to launch your metabolism. A nutritionally dense shake like Shakeology is all it takes to boost your metabolism in the morning.

Another way to increase your metabolism is to add spices to your food. According to the U.S. Agricultural Research Service, Cinnamon is one spice that increases your metabolism twentyfold – and all you have to ingest is a mere ¼ to 1 tsp per day! (Please don’t interpret this to mean you should do the cinnamon challenge!!!) Try adding some cinnamon to your chocolate Shakeology…it is very tasty!

While you’re planning your meals, you may want to add kiwi fruit to your diet. Kiwis pack a lot of vitamin C, but if you add 500 mg of it to your day, you burn up to 39% more fat when you’re exercising. Don’t get too much C, though, because once you get to the 2,000 mg mark, you start experiencing adverse effects like bloating, gas, and diarrhea. Personally, I like to get the powdered vitamin C that Trader Joe’s sells and add it into my shake in the morning.

Another metabolism boosting measure is to watch what you drink.

Adding ice to a drink makes your body work harder because it has to heat it up in your stomach, which increases your metabolism. Also, ingesting a caffeine drink like coffee or tea can raise your heart rate and increase your metabolism. Don’t go crazy with the caffeine though – that can have adverse side effects like high blood pressure and more.

Where you’re eating can be just as important as what you’re eating. When you’re having breakfast in the morning, try positioning yourself near a window so that you can soak up some sun. The bright light boosts your metabolism and also helps you increase bone and muscle strength. One of the reasons we feel so sluggish in the winter is the lack of sunlight. Ever notice how your mood and energy alters in the Spring and Summer?

You can also add a daily multivitamin to help your body burn more calories. The P90X Vitamin packs are an easy way to make sure you get all the vitamins you need. Easy on the stomach they are a great addition to your nutrition. When you add vitamins daily, your body benefits by revving up its metabolism. Chromium, which is found in tomatoes and in a supplement form, also boosts the way you burn fat.

If you really want to kick-start your metabolism, you may also try dividing your meals up into smaller portions that you eat more often throughout the day. Every time you eat, it helps your metabolism rise, so as strange as it may sound, eating frequently can help you lose weight or maintain a healthy weight.

Losing weight can be tricky. But there are definitely small things you can do to help speed up the process and get you the results you want! Your nutrition has a big role in boosting your metabolism so make sure you factor that into your weight loss regimen.

5 Ways to Improve Your Team’s Motivation Skills

Look around at the successful businesses in your area or anywhere in the world. What made them successful? Reasons for business success are many and complex but one of the underlying reasons for success in most businesses is motivation.

If your team members are not motivated, your business will suffer from the inside out and it could begin to crumble one person at a time. Soon, you’ll be surrounded by people who are down and dragging others with them.

Without question, people want to run a business to make money, to make a living and support their family and the lifestyle to which they’ve become accustomed or would like to achieve. But, if your business strives to maintain a healthy environment it must go beyond monetary reward. If we fail to gain fulfillment in our work and feel needed then the paycheck becomes secondary and may not be worth it at all. That is where Team Beachbody beats any other company.

Here are my tips on helping your team to be examples of motivation.

1. Treat your team with respect. If possible, learn as much about them as such each time you speak to them. Without respect, there is no company loyalty and they will not feel important and will feel disconnected from the team.

2. Earn your team member’s trust. Make them feel an important part of the company’s success. Share with them company plans for change and expansion. Communicate with your group individually and as a group through one on one calls and team calls.

If they hear about a change in their company from someone other their leader, they feel left out and even betrayed. Be generous with emails and team calls or hangout to be followed with regular one on one calls with your leaders. Lack of communication with your team is one of the chief reasons for turmoil.

3. Listen to what your team members have to say. In many cases, your newest leaders are full of enthusiasm and some new ideas. You may not want to take action on all their suggestions, but give them an opportunity to share their thoughts. You may be surprised at some great ideas that someone new comes up with.

4. Show your appreciation. ABE = Always Be Edifying. Have regular times where your team gets recognition. Perhaps name a team member of the month.

Present them with small tokens of your gratitude such as a bonus, a gift or a free dinner. Your appreciation should be spread throughout the year, not just at an annual meeting. Frequent boosts of recognition are essential.

5. Provide incentives for advancement. No one wants to work hard and not get rewards. This is where taking the time to know what motivates your team members really helps. Find out what each person wants in the business and in life in general and express an interest in helping him or her to fulfill those desires. Many times you’ll learn they want nothing more than to love what they do and feel they’re contributing to the overall effort.

Your team deserves to have your respect, trust and appreciation. Communicate with them and provide incentives and your motivation skills will greatly improve. You will see incredible rewards in your own business then too!

Top 7 Tips for Achieving Goals

There are certain things that help to ensure you achieve the goals you set for yourself.

Here are my Top 7 Tips For Achieving Goals:

1. Write down your goals. Statistics has shown that goals that have been written down are much more likely to be attained. Make sure it is specific as possible. In other words, don’t just say “I want to lose weight” or “I want to be rich.” You must say “I want to weigh 130 lbs.” or “I want to have 1 Million Dollars by X date.”

2. Break down your goal into manageable chunks. For example, if your big goal is to lose 30 pounds, break it down into 5 pound increments. Decide to lose 5 pounds per month over 6 months.

3. Take a step toward your goal every single day. No matter what, do something that will get you closer to your goal. This is ACTION.

4. Visualize your goal every day as always having been achieved. See yourself in the present with the goal in hand.

5. Regroup quickly when you have setbacks. Don’t wallow. No one has a straight path to success. It is always one step forward two steps back then some sideways, some circles and then as long as you never give up you will achieve your goal.

6. Constantly be feeding yourself positive information. Turn off distractions like the TV. Learn to FOCUS = Focus on One thing Until Success.

7. Share your goal with others – This will help as an accountability tool for you as you move forward. If you create a goal but tell no one, then it won’t be a big deal if you don’t achieve it. But if you announce you will be at a certain weight by a specific date, you have a much higher likelihood of achieving it.

I started my journey in self improvement years ago and Tony Robbins was one of the mentors that really resonated with me.

When you run your own business, you have to be on a constant journey of self development.

Average Guy Transforms Life

I decided that I am going to share some stories with you about my journey… That it might help someone out there.

I have not been much of a writer, but it was pointed out to me that if I don’t share my story with people and share my experience then I might miss reaching someone that I otherwise might have helped to change their lives.

This message is for you – if you are that person that needs something different in his or her life.

I always felt like I was going to do something meaningful with my life. I wasn’t sure what that meant or what that looked like.

Juice Your Way Healthy

I’m in love. Seriously I never knew I could love eating veggies so much. Recently my friend who happens to also be a Team Beachbody coach, Jake recommended a movie to me called “Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead.” Sounds super motivating right? Well it actually was incredibly inspiring. I was expecting a pseudo “Super Size Me” type of movie where someone is killing himself eating all the wrong things. Instead, this was the awesome story of a few people that completely changed their life and went from being “fat, sick, and nearly dead” to healthy, strong, and vibrant.

The movie was so good, I invited my dear friends Ben and Deb over to watch it with us. Little did I know that it would start a new spark of diet change in all of us that would transform our health, our approach to a whole foods diet and new energy and stamina to get our workouts done! What an incredible gift.

We both ran out and got juicers and now we are replacing at least two meals a day to get those last nagging pounds off from too much vacation (or lack of vacation) fun.

Today was grocery day and I just had to share with you how beautiful the juices look and how delicious they are! We are eating vegetables that we would never have eaten before and the colors and tastes are so interesting and delicious.

The juices in this picture were made from beets, red cabbage, and apples for the red juice (wow it was SO delicious and gorgeous in color) and the “Mean Green” juice from the movie – which consists of kale, spinach, cucumber, celery, apples, and ginger. Both were very refreshing and packed a powerful energy punch.

I feel lighter and healthier than I’ve ever been. I highly recommend you give juicing a try. It is a great way to develop your palette so you start to enjoy vegetables again and you stop craving all the processed foods that we have all become accustomed to.

Surprise Yourself

When I started my journey with P90X almost two years ago, I really just had the goal of losing weight. I didn’t want to be “the fat girl” anymore.

What I didn’t realize was that I was reprogramming my entire body for a new life, a new level of fitness that I never dreamed possible for myself. I found that as I went further and further with P90X, I had so much more energy and endurance. I no longer got winded going up the stairs. I was able to lift things that previously had been a struggle and one of the most pleasant surprises, was that I discovered that I can RUN!

I never ever in my entire life was a good runner. I could sprint for short distances but as soon as any distance like 1/4 mile came up, I just couldn’t do it. I didn’t have the endurance for it.

One day, after doing P90X for a while I decided I wanted to see what would happen if I tried to run. I went to my local high school track and just thought I would try to run a 1/4 mile – or one time around the track. I was shocked to find that I easily accomplished that and kept going! The next thing I knew, I had run a 5K and I felt amazing.

So I want to encourage you to see what YOU can do. Keep working your program whether you are doing P90X, Insanity, Turbo Jam, Turbo Fire, Chalene Extreme, Rev Abs, or Ten Minute Trainer, you can push yourself to new levels of fitness. When you stick with your workouts and then try something new like cycling or running, you will be amazed at the change in your body.

You CAN be the athlete you always wanted to be. Surprise yourself. It will change your life.
